Thank you to Julie Ditrich for inviting me to be a role model for Books in Homes at Braddock Public School in Cranebrook near Penrith. This morning I was honoured to be part of their Book Giving Assembly.
I arrived to find the Deputy Principal and a team of teachers cooking a BBQ breakfast for the kids- wonderful!
At the assembly I spoke to the 200 kids about the fun of creating your own stories. One child from each class was then presented with their book bags. All the other kids will get their books during the day.
There also was a launch of a reading program for term 2 called R.O.C.E.D (reading outside of class time every day) and many kids were awarded prizes for excellent behaviour.
The Books in Homes project at Braddock School is kindly sponsored by University of Western Sydney Higher Education Participation Program. Nicole Smith was there to represent the UWS. UWS is also supplying mentors to hear the kids read.
It was a happy, inspiring occasion and I was thrilled to be part of it.
