On a dark and stormy night… a group of children’s book lovers gathered at Belrose Library for our May meeting of the CBCA Northern Sydney Sub Branch. We started with the launch of a wonderful new picture book, ‘Bearly There’ We were delighted to hear from the author- Aleesah Darlison, the illustrator- Jill Carter-Hansen and the inspiration- Aleesah’s son, Blake.

Our guest speaker was Cath Keenan- executive director and co-founder of the Sydney Story Factory. Cath told us about the beginnings of what is now ‘The Martian Embassy’ in the main street of Redfern. They have an excellent web site if you would like to learn more- www.sydneystoryfactory.org.au I am a volunteer tutor for them and I’m helping with a program they are running on Tuesday afternoons at the moment.

Following Cath’s presentation we had our general meeting.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 31st July at Balgowlah Heights Public School library at 7pm. We will be holding a forum on ‘Engaging Reluctant Readers.’ All people with an enthusiastic interest in Kids and Books are welcome.

I like this quote from the Sydney Story Factory website ‘Igniting the spark of creativity in every child one story at a time.’
