On Wednesday 28th November, the CBCA Northern Sydney Sub Branch gathered to celebrate 2012.

What a wonderful success!

Tinsel, balloons, photos, raffle prizes and book stall set a glittering scene in the intimate setting of Sorlies Restaurant at Glen Street Theatre Belrose.

59 people mingled and delighted in a buffet dinner, drinks from the bar and most importantly listened intently to award winning Australian author Glenda Millard and Stephen Michael King. We were delighted when Stephen created 2 wonderful illustrations before our eyes which were sold in a silent auction.

There was also an interview with Amelia Lush from Pages and Pages Bookshop, a trivia quiz and a wonderful raffle where we had too many prizes.

Among the audience were 3 people won have been awarded order of Australia medals for outstanding contribution to Children’s Literature- Maurice Saxby, Margaret Hamilton and Susanne Gervay.

We also had a fine line up of authors in attendance- Kate Forsyth, Belinda Murrell, Aleesah Darlison, Wendy Blaxland, Jill Bruce and a host of librarians, teachers, parents, publishers, illustrators and booksellers.

2012- the National Year of Reading has been a wonderful year for books, kids and reading.

The Children’s Book Community in Sydney has a very special generosity of spirit and I am very proud to be part of it.
